Ephedrine Cycle & Strategy

As previously explained, ephedrine is a compound with very limited applications.

Its role is essentially restricted to that of a fat loss agent.

Athletes involved in speed and strength sports (especially powerlifters) are known to take ephedrine before workouts or competitions as a stimulant to temporarily boost energy and achieve small but noticeable gains in strength.

As a result, total lifted weight and performance often see a temporary increase during major workouts or events.

However, it’s important to note that athletes using ephedrine in this way do not take it frequently, but rather occasionally, around 25–50mg 2–3 times per week before workouts.

Due to its stimulant properties and close relation to amphetamines, ephedrine is well-known for providing a mental edge through improved focus and cognitive performance, enhancing workout capability.

Ephedrine cycles should not exceed 2–4 weeks at a time, especially when used for fat loss, and this practice is strongly recommended.

This is because ephedrine can downregulate alpha and beta receptors that mediate its stimulant and fat loss effects.

While drugs like ketotifen can upregulate beta-2 receptors, it’s important to note that they cannot upregulate alpha receptors or other beta receptor subtypes beyond beta-2.[1]

For this reason, ketotifen is commonly paired with selective beta-2 agonists like clenbuterol, which specifically target beta-2 receptors, as its name implies.

It’s essential to remember that ephedrine acts on both alpha and beta receptors.

Therefore, before resuming an ephedrine cycle, you should discontinue the drug for approximately 4 weeks to allow receptors to fully reset, avoiding use for the same duration afterward.

Aside from pre-workout stimulation, ephedrine is rarely used in bulking or lean mass cycles.

Ephedrine cycles are best suited for fat loss, dieting phases, and general weight reduction periods.

Ephedrine can easily be combined with anabolic steroids or other non-stimulant fat-burning compounds like T3 (thyroid hormone) or human growth hormone (HGH).

However, if you regularly take other stimulants like clenbuterol, albuterol, or other fat burners besides caffeine, you should avoid combining them, as their effects can compound on the body.

Doing so can negatively impact the cardiovascular system and overly stress the central nervous system, so it should be avoided at all costs.

Ephedrine Cycle Examples

Ephedrine Cycle #1 (Total Cycle Duration 12 Weeks)

1- 12 Weeks – Testosterone Cypionate 300mg /week 

– Trenbolone Enanthate 400mg /week 

1- 4
8- 12 Weeks
– Ephedrine 90mg /day (max dose)

– Caffeine: 600mg/day (200mg with each ephedrine dose)

This ephedrine cycle illustrates basic use across a longer 12-week period.

Testosterone and Trenbolone are the anabolic steroids chosen for this cycle (both long-ester variants), with Trenbolone providing notable nutrient partitioning effects.

This cycle can help achieve greater fat loss.


Ephedrine Cycle #2 (Total 8-Week Cycle)

1- 8 Weeks – Testosterone Propionate 100mg/week (25mg every other day)

– Trenbolone Acetate 200mg/week (50mg every other day)

– Anavar 80mg/day

4- 8 Weeks – Ephedrine 90mg/day (max dose)

– Caffeine 600mg/day (200mg with each ephedrine dose)

This sample Ephedrine Cycle #2 administers ephedrine only during the last 4 weeks, shortening overall cycle length while accelerating fat loss during the final half of the cycle.

This approach is commonly used by competitive bodybuilders, inserting fat loss compounds toward the end to help eliminate “stubborn fat.”

All compounds and doses chosen in this cycle are generally appropriate for fat loss goals and/or pre-competition preparation.

Ephedrine Cycle #3 Sample (Total 8-Week Cycle)

1- 8 Weeks – Testosterone Propionate 100mg/week (25mg every other day)

– Trenbolone Acetate 200mg/week (50mg every other day)

– Drostanolone Propionate (Masteron) 400mg/week (100mg every other day)

– T3 75 – 100mcg/day

– Ephedrine 90mg/day (max dose)

– Caffeine 600mg/day (200mg with each ephedrine dose)

This third sample ephedrine cycle is designed to demonstrate three key points.

The first point is that ephedrine can be taken in short 2-week bursts, followed by a 2-week break, then another 2-week administration.

This contrasts with the previous example of 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off.

The second point is that ephedrine use can continue even after the anabolic steroid cycle concludes.

The third point is the inclusion of the fat loss aid T3.
